Recent Activities by Office of Postgraduate Research Programmes

Our PGR students on a city tour on 22 August 2014

The Office of Postgraduate Research Programmes (PGR) began the 2014 Academic Year with a series of engaging activities and celebrations for both its new and current batch of PGR students. A welcome briefing for 47 new PGR students was held on 13 August, and a city tour was conducted for 23 new international students on 22 August.

The main highlight was a kick-off party on 29 August, which provided a fantastic platform for 75 new and existing PhD students from various levels and programmes to get to know one another better. The students were introduced to an overview of the student activities that would be planned over the Academic Year. They were also encouraged to attend international conferences during their PhD studies, and publish their research work and achievements on the SMU PhD website (pgr.smu.edu.sg) to strengthen their research profile. In addition, there was a presentation of the prestigious 2014 Presidential Doctoral Fellowship to the following students for their exceptional academic performance:

  • Leng Tiecheng, PhD in Business (Finance)
  • Zeng Huaxia, PhD in Economics
  • Diao Qiming, PhD in Information Systems
  • Le Van Minh Tuan, PhD in Information Systems
  • Yong Jin Chuan, PhD in Psychology

The party ended with SMU alumnus, Tey Chee Meng, who shared his PhD experience. He has a PhD in Information Systems and is currently a Senior Member of Technical Staff in DSO Laboratories.
