Celia Moh Professorial Chair |
Sock Yong PHANG |
The Celia Moh Professorial Chair was established in Year 2000 by the late Mr Laurence Moh, former Chairman of Plantation Timber Products, in honour of his wife Celia Moh to commemorate their 40th wedding anniversary. The purpose of this award is to promote and recognise the outstanding work of a female faculty member in SMU. A scholar of urban economics, Sock Yong obtained her PhD degree in economics from Harvard University in 1989. Her research specialisation in Urban Economics, Housing and Transport Economics, as well as Economics of Regulation and Competition Law, have led to her publishing widely in these areas. Sock Yong has provided expert advice to prominent international entities such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, and served as a board member with the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Land Transport Authority and Public Transport Council. She is credited for her contributions as one of the co-investigators for SMU’s research project on economics of ageing, which was awarded under the Ministry of Education Academic Research Fund for Tier 3 Programme. |
