SOA Professor receives Best Research Paper Award in Hong Kong

Professor Cheng Qiang and his co-authors, Du Fei (The University of Hong Kong), Wang Xin (The University of Hong Kong) and Wang Yutao (Central University of Finance and Economics), received the Best Research Paper Award during the 6th Annual Research Conference of Chinese Accounting Professors’ Association of North America (CAPANA) for their paper,  ‘Are Investors’ Corporate Site Visits Informative?’ The conference was sponsored by the University of Hong Kong and was held on 7-9 July 2013 in Hong Kong.

In this paper, the authors provide evidence on whether and how corporate site visits (eg. field tours of a company’s operating facilities and visits to the warehouses) can be useful for investors’ information acquisition activities. The study contributes to the literature by presenting the first systematic evidence on the information role of corporate visits.

The CAPANA conference is considered as one of the premier events for accounting professors around the world. It aims to bring together accounting scholars in North America and Asia to discuss on a small number of high quality research papers. This year, more than 100 participants attended the conference from Harvard Business School, Stanford University, INSEAD, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Cornell University, and many others.
